What Does A Restoration Technician Do?

A Restoration Technician is responsible for cleaning, repairing and restoring tile and stone surfaces and objects, such as floors, work tops, walls, vanity units, and other stone items that have been damaged due to abrasion, physical damage, chemical damage or decay. They evaluate the extent of the damage, develop a restoration plan, and execute the necessary repairs using a range of specialized tools and techniques. Restoration Technicians must have a keen eye for detail, knowledge of different stone, tile and related materials and their properties, as well as good communication skills to liaise with clients and other professionals involved in the restoration process.

The Restoration Technician will assess the condition of the surfaces and devise a plan of action to restore them to their original condition. This may include; cleaning, stripping, grinding, honing, polishing, sealing, replacing or repairing damaged tiles and other repairs such as etch repair , crack repair and grout repair. The Technician must use their experience,  knowledge and skills to carefully restore the items to their original state. They must also be able to recommend the most appropriate materials and techniques for the repair work.

The Restoration Technician must be able to communicate effectively with customers and other stakeholders, providing advice and ensuring the customer is happy with the repair work. They will be expected to maintain accurate records relating to the restoration process.

The ideal person for this role will have a passion for restoring stone, a strong work ethic and an eye for detail. They must also have excellent problem-solving skills and be able to work to deadlines.
