Marble Restoration A Quick Introduction
Last Updated on March 30, 2023 by David
Marble restoration means different things to different people from cleaning marble tiles, to marble polishing to marble grinding.
If you have uneven scratched marble tiles, they will need to be restored by grinding them to make them smooth before honing and polishing.
Marble restoration is a considered investment costing anywhere from £30 to £60 per square meter, depending on the condition of the floor and the type of marble.
The restoration process starts with grinding the marble with quite coarse diamond tooling. The marble grinding equipment will grind away the surface of the marble tiles until the floor is smooth, with no lippage or uneven tiles
The grinding process usually leaves the grout flush with the surface of the marble, making them much easier to keep clean.
Marble grinding is done with heavyweight (85kg+) diamond grinding machinery. The best finish is achieved using a planetary grinding head.
Marble Repair
Marble can have many problems; from holes, chips, cracks and stuns. They show themselves as holes or voids in the marble
The voids can be filled with colour-matched fillers
depending on the nature of the damage, the fillers may need to be left to harden – usually 24 hours – and the repair may need to be lightly ground to remove excess filler from the surface of the marble
If the marble filler is not flush with the marble surface, the area is filled for a second time and left to harden.
Again the surface is lightly ground to remove any excess filler and the floor is usually smooth after a second filling.
