The Best Marble Polishing Service In Sandiacre Nottingham – Abbey Floor Care

Last Updated on January 17, 2026 by David

This marble polishing project in Sandiacre, Nottingham came about because the homeowner had a domestic marble floor that required corrective restoration rather than routine cleaning.

After reviewing several local companies offering marble polishing in the Sandiacre area, the client contacted Abbey Floor Care to assess whether the floor could be restored to a consistent, usable finish.

The floor was approximately ten years old and showed significant wear. Surface scratching, ingrained contamination, and loss of clarity meant the marble no longer reflected light evenly.

Inspection revealed excessive tile lippage, with height differences of up to 5mm between adjacent tiles.

Excessive lippage between marble tiles

Lippage of this degree prevents effective cleaning and causes accelerated wear at tile edges. A separate reference example illustrating lippage effects can be seen here:

Domestic marble floor affected by grit from pets

Tracked-in grit and oils contributed to abrasion and made surface contamination difficult to remove. The grout had also darkened due to absorbed residues from previous cleaning attempts.

Repeated cleaning efforts did not improve the appearance because the underlying problem was surface damage rather than dirt.

Marble Polishing Sandiacre Nottingham – Grinding and Levelling

Initial marble grinding to remove lippage

Restoration began with mechanical grinding to remove lippage and bring the floor into a flat, uniform plane. This was carried out using a planetary grinding system with coarse metal-bond diamond tooling.

Aggressive marble grinding stage

Coarse grinding necessarily leaves deep abrasion marks, which were then progressively refined to stabilise the surface and prepare it for honing.

Hand-held tooling was used to correct edges and corners to the same level as the main field of tiles.

Marble Honing Stages

The floor was honed using progressively finer diamond abrasives, moving from initial scratch removal through to a smooth, even satin finish.

At this stage the marble had regained surface clarity and consistency, ready for final polishing.

Marble Polishing and Sealing

Final polishing was carried out using a marble polishing compound to restore a reflective finish. An impregnating sealer was then applied to help reduce future staining by limiting absorption into the stone.
