Terracotta Cleaning And Sealing Project In Brighton Sussex
Last Updated on January 19, 2026 by David
A Spanish-style terracotta floor in Brighton. The homeowners wanted the floor cleaned, sealed, and re-waxed. They used to do this work themselves, but age was catching up with them, and the floor had become harder to keep looking fresh.

To start, I applied a strong sealer remover to break down the old sealer and wax residues. After allowing time for it to work, I scrubbed the floor with a rotary floor machine to lift and release the softened residues from the surface and pores.

Next, I rinsed the floor and vacuumed up the slurry. Because there were multiple layers of old residues, I repeated the process several times until the surface was clean and the remaining build-up had been removed.
I then left the floor overnight to dry fully before sealing.
On my return, I applied a couple of coats of colour-enhancing impregnating sealer. Once that had dried, I applied a layer of floor wax to give the terracotta a warm, natural-looking finish suited to the style of the home.

Finally, I gave the homeowners brief, job-specific guidance on how to clean the floor going forward so the finish lasts longer and stays looking consistent.
Aftercare used by the Brighton homeowners
As part of this Brighton terracotta floor project, I advised the homeowners on simple, low-impact products they could use to help look after the newly cleaned and sealed surface. These were recommended specifically for this floor and finish, not as general terracotta guidance.
Fila Pro Floor Cleaner
A gentle, pH-neutral cleaner suitable for routine cleaning of sealed terracotta without stripping the finish. |
LTP Floorshine
Used occasionally to help maintain an even appearance on floors with a light wax or sheen finish. |
Vileda H2PrO Spin Mop System
A controlled, low-moisture mop system to reduce over-wetting on porous terracotta floors. |
These products were suggested to support the finish applied on this floor. Terracotta floors vary widely, and different finishes or conditions may require different approaches.
