Diagnostic Case Study: Restoring a 15-Year-Old Travertine Matrix in Haslingden

This 15 years old Travertine floor in Haslingden, Rossendale had seen better days. The tiles and grout had ingrained soil. There were lots of collapsed holes across the floor. The holes had filled with soil.

The Limits of Manual Maintenance: Why Embedded Soil Persists

My client had tried to keep the floor clean, but over time, her efforts were having less effect.

Specialist Protocol: Rotary Agitation and Pressurised Soil Extraction

I deep cleaned the Travertine with a rotary scrubbing machine. Then I pressure rinsed the floor to remove ingrained soil from the holes and the grout.

Structural Stabilization: Filling Skeletal Voids with Mapei Grout

I filled the holes, tile by tile, with Mapei Grout.

Film-Forming Encapsulation: Ensuring Longevity and Soil Resistance

I sealed the floor with several coats of film-forming sealer.

The floor now looks clean and beautiful. My client now has a beautiful floor finish that will give years of service.

This project is one of many examples referenced in our Travertine flooring care guide, which explains how Travertine behaves in real homes and why particular issues develop over time.
