Victorian Clay Tiles Cleaning And Sealing Project In Blyth Northumberland

Last Updated on January 15, 2026 by David

Victorian Clay Geometric Tiles in a hallway in Blyth, Northumberland. The tiles are often referred to as Minton tiles. The floor needed cleaning to remove old paint and sealer residues.

I used a clay tile sealer remover and cleaner. After leaving the treatment for an hour, I scrubbed the floor using a rotary scrubbing machine.

I had to go over some areas again by hand to remove all of the residues.

After the floor dried, I applied a few coats of sealer to help protect the finish and make cleaning easier.

This is one of many real hallway projects referenced in our Victorian tile floor care guide, which explains why clay tiles often hold onto grime and what sealing can (and can’t) do afterwards.

I returned three days later to apply a thin coat of floor wax to further protect the tiles.
