Victorian Clay Tiles Cleaning And Sealing Project In Windsor Berkshire
Last Updated on February 8, 2026 by David
This lovely Victorian Minton style Victorian Clay Tile floor in Windsor had a dull finish from years of old surface sealer and encapsulated soil.

To get the finish back to something the homeowner could enjoy again, I first softened the old sealer layers with a stripping solution. Once the layers had loosened, I worked them off the tiles with a scrubbing machine and rinsed everything away.

That process needed repeating a few times until the remaining residue stopped reappearing and the surface looked consistently clean.
Once the floor had been left overnight, I returned to apply several layers of a film-forming sealer to give a tougher, more hard-wearing finish.

This is one of many real hallway projects referenced in our Victorian tile floor care guide, which explains why clay tiles often look tired and patchy, and how professional cleaning and sealing changes the finish.
If you are in Windsor or the surrounding area and you need help with your stone floor, please drop me a line. I’ll be happy to help.
